Spring!

Spring has sprung in NYC. Cherry trees have bloomed and everyone's out on their bikes. After Tracklocross yesterday [more on that later], I decided to take it easy today and mess around a bit with my new Crusher and freshly cleaned bike [... I said more on that later!]... Here are two new things I'm working on. and I want to thank Milwaukee Cycles for hooking me up with a Crusher!

why does one grind a chainwheel? what is the cool part of this?

Anonymous internet poster:

-It's a Chainring [or a Sprocket in the BMX world] not a chainwheel.

-If you take the time to follow the links in the posting, you'll see that there is a guard on the chain ring protecting it and my chain from being abused.

It's not "cool" it's fun. It looks dumb and I'll probably end up with a dental bill at the end of the summer, but I'm having a blast. At the end of the day "chainring or sprocket" stalls aren't new to cycling. Talk to any bmx'r or mtb'r and they'd tell you that!

Like I said, It's fun!

I remember seeing that a year or so ago.

I wonder if a tiny gear makes that big of a difference? The reality of it is that the lower your gear inches, the less you have to move out from the radius of your loops. With my current gearing, I'm pushing about 74 Gear Inches... This guy looks like he's below 60".

Who's good at math? Shed some light!

like the 360! not feeling the grinds. ive got a skateboard for that. we need to set our own standards. do our own thing. i dont want to get grouped into the same bullshit that rollerbladers and scooters are in. just my feeling on the matter. we already have enough to contend with... just my two cents. we have been working on some video stuff too. check out the teaser at www.techb3.com

True, BMX'rs also do "sprocket grinds"...

and it all came from skateboarding... right now we are in the same boat as every other "x" sport, and we can learn a few things from what has happened in the past. Shit is gonna blow up quick. they are already selling fixies in stores, ready to go. more and more people are hopping on the fixed gear wagon. its gonna get dilluted, quick. we got a good thing going but we need to decide where its going. the abuse has already begun. "track bikes are like assholes, everyone has got one these days." thats fine, but lets let what we do on them define who we are. not who we are copying on a track bike. i think you guys are doing good things, but a sudden rise to the public's attention often results in sudden death. time will tell.

I'm always curious as to why people get so worked up over bikes?.. Try not to think about it so much man.

Also, please don't say "fixie". haha!
